Two women attacked and robbed on the R28

SAPS needs to emphasise the importance of not walking in remote areas at night.

Two females were attacked and robbed by three suspects on the R28 on 26 August at approximately 7.10pm

At the time of the incident, the women were walking behind the suspects.

It is understood that the suspects suddenly turned around and produced firearms and a knife.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, one suspect dragged one woman to the side of the road while the other two ganged up on her friend and dragged her away too.

“Both the women were robbed of their personal belongings, an undisclosed amount of cash and their cellphones,” says Ernst.

She adds that after this, the suspects forced one of the women to the ground and tried to rape her.

She was able to scream for help and that was when all suspects fled on foot.

“The Randfontein SAPS needs to emphasise the importance of not walking in remote areas at night.

“We urge everyone to be cautious at all times and put their safety first,” says Ernst.
