Pensioner robbed at an ATM

Suspects made a transaction worth R5319.70 at a local liquour store.

A 69-year-old pensioner was attacked and robbed of her bank card at an ATM outside the Pick n Pay outlet in Westonaria on 14 August.

According to Westonaria SAPS spokesperson Thembi Masango, the pensioner in question was about to withdraw money from the ATM when the incident occurred.

“Three men approached her from behind and just when she turned around, one of them demanded her bank card and her pin code.

“Fearing for her life, the woman succumbed to the demands and handed over her card together with her pin number,” says Masango.

She adds that the suspects immediately fled on foot.

“Just minutes later, the woman received a notification message from her bank stating that a transaction worth R5 319,70 had been made at a local liquor store.

“Shortly afterwards, another notification came in that R2 000 had been withdrawn from her account.”

According to Masango, nobody has been arrested at this stage but a case of robbery is currently under investigation.
