Update: Man dies in Greenhills house robbery

A man (32) tragically died during a suspected house robbery on Falcon Street, Greenhills.

A young male tragically lost his life during a suspected house robbery in Falcon Street, Greenhills on 27 August.

The Randfontein Herald received an anonymous call at around 2.15pm. Upon the Herald’s arrival at the scene police officials confirmed that the man, aged 32, was murdered during the incident.

The incident took place at approximately 12.45pm. The 63-year-old father of the victim discovered the body of his son in their residence.

It is alleged that the father, Reverend Keith Bailey of the Methodist church, Randfontein, returned home when he noticed his 32-year old son, Craig Bailey in the bathroom. He was tied up and it is evident that a struggle took place in the room.

Craig Bailey was declared dead by attending paramedic personnel. It is suspected that the victim was overpowered in the house, by unknown suspects. They bound the victim’s hands and feet and evidence of assault was found on the scene.

The body was inspected during the investigation and no visible injuries were noticed. The victim was not stabbed or shot. A post mortem will be conducted within the week to determine the cause of death.

The house was ransacked and household goods and electronic appliances were removed from the house. Forensic evidence was collected on the scene of the crime.

During a separate incident three suspects were arrested in the Riebeeck lake area, Greenhills. This happened at approximately 13:15 when the males started running away when police stopped next to them for a routine search. The suspects are being interrogated and forensic evidence was collected to determine if the suspects can be linked to this incident.

Rumours regarding the incident are rife amongst the local community, which includes possible suicide. A murder case is being investigated and no possibility of suicide exists. The SAPS Randfontein wishes to express their condolences with the family of the deceased.
