Another motorist fined wrongly

I am being held responsible for somebody else's offence

The Westonaria Traffic Department once again has come under the spotlight after it fined another motorist R300 for a traffic offence involving a vehicle that does not belong to her.

Izelle Pretorius received the traffic fine in December last year.

The fine in question is for a black Renault vehicle despite the fact that Pretorius’ vehicle is a white Renault Logan.

The traffic fine states that the motorists was travelling at 20km per hour in a 80km zone.

The registration number on the vehicle is not clearly visible.

According to Pretorius, she was shocked when she received a traffic fine for a car that she does not even own.

“I don’t know how that traffic department operates as I do not recall owning a black Renault; clearly I am being held responsible for somebody else’s offence and I will not pay for it,” says Pretorius.

She adds that she has tried to contact the Westonaria Traffic Department to enquire about the fine but no one was able to assist her.

The Herald can testify to the fact that this is not the first of the department’s traffic fine woes.

Recently, the Herald published an article about another motorist who also was fined R300 for allegedly travelling at 120km per hour in a 80km zone.

The vehicle captured on the traffic department’s photograph was a truck and not his VW caddie bakkie.

The Westonaria Traffic Department spokesperson Kgabane Madiehe has noted the motorist’s complaints and says that he will revert back with comment after investigating the matter.
