Another Greenhills family attacked at home

A Greenhills family was attacked in their home by five men, at least one of whom was armed with a firearm.

A Family was attacked by five men at their Buffel Street home in Greenhills on Monday 19 August.

The attack occurred at approximately 6.45pm, when a 37-year old resident emerged from his parents’ house, where he had gone to collect his 10-year-old son who had been visiting his grandparents.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, the man had run into the house to collect his son, and when he returned to his vehicle, which was parked outside the gate, with his son and his 67-year-old father in tow, he was accosted by five men, at least one of them being armed.

“Upon entering the house, a fight broke out between the victims and the suspects,” says Ernst.

“The 67 year old father was assaulted by the suspects, who then fled from the scene.”

All the victims were traumatised by the incident and the elderly man sustained minor injuries during the assault.

Neighbours apparently reported a suspicious silver Ford Focus in the street just prior to the incident.

Ernst has issued a warning to residents, urging them to be extra observant before approaching their homes.

“Make sure there are no suspicious vehicles in the street before you stop and try not to follow a specific route home.

“Vary your routine in order to make it difficult for opportunistic criminals to target you.”

Ernst says that any suspicious vehicles should be reported to 10111.

Any person with information that might assist the SAPS in the investigation of this crime is requested to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Karen Nel on 011 278 8100.

  1. It seems strange and illogical to have a picture of a grinning police officer at the head of the column unless the police officer thinks its funny that someone’s house was broken into?
