A 15-year-old Randfontein girl was raped by 37-year-old man with whom she was conversing on the social media chatroom Mxit.
According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, the girl has been conversing with the man for some time and they agreed to meet on 20 July.
“The decided to meet in Finsbury, and after a while, the man invited the girl with him on a drive,” says Ernst.
“They drove for a while and she even showed him where she lives.”
Ernst says that the two ended up in a squatter camp in Elandsvlei, where the man forced the girl into his shack and locked her in.
The man apparently left the girl there and left, returning the next day.
“Upon his return on the following day, he raped the girl several times throughout the day and then asked another person to take the girl home.
“She was taken to a hospital for medical treatment and a case of rape was opened.
“The man was arrested by the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Marie Strooh and charged with rape.”
