Police seize illegal cigarettes worth R67 000

The two were found in separate locations in Brandvlei with numerous boxes containing the cigarettes.

The West Rand SAPS Cluster Drug Team made a major arrest when they caught two men in possession of illegal cigarettes worth R67 000 in Brandvlei on 20 July.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the SAPS cluster drug task team was acting on a tip off when they made the arrests.

“Having received information on the suspects aged 34 and 41-years-old, police officers investigated them for some time.

“Following positive leads, the two were found in separate locations in Brandvlei with numerous boxes containing the cigarettes,” says Ernst.

According to her, the suspects appeared at the Randfontein Magistrates Court on 22 July and their case was postponed pending further investigation.

Ersnt congratulates the cluster drug task team for their work and dedication towards their mandate to eradicate drug dealers in the West Rand.

She adds that since the task teams inception on 6 June, the officers have made a number of arrests and continue to stick to their mandate of putting criminals behind bars.
