Criminal target egg farms

Randfontein police have warned about a new crime trend emerging in Randfontein.

Randfontein police have reported that a new crime trend is emerging in Randfontein.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, two robberies of egg farms along the N14 Ventersdorp Road have occurred only days apart.

During the first incident, 10 suspects attacked a 43-year-old security guard at an egg producing farm on 10 July.

This business is situated in the Driehoek area on the N14.

“It is alleged that some of the suspects were armed with axes,” says Ernst.

“The suspects allegedly tied the security guard and another employee up at approximately 11.15pm before removing numerous boxes of eggs from the premises.”

Ernst says that the suspects fled when a co-worker started looking for the security guards.

Warrant officer Bongani Mpete is the investigating officer.

Two evenings later, on 12 July at approximately 3am another egg producing farm was targeted in the Holfontein area, also situated on the N14.

The 38-year-old complainant was also guarding the business when three suspects, all armed with axes, overpowered him. He was tied up and the suspects also stole trays of eggs.

Warrant officer Thabiso Duiker is the investigating officer.

Both investigators can be contacted on 011 278 8100.
