They are also expected to speak of his struggle in the journey toward attaining freedom for the people of South Africa.

The Youth Council at the Randfontein Local Municipality is set to embark on a youth debate on 19 July at the council chambers in Randfontein.

This is in commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day on 18 July.

At the debate, Executive Youth Mayor Naledi Sekokodi, Chief whip Rosemary Matabane and Speaker Ayabulela Mhlahlo are expected to take to the podium and speak of what the iconic figure means to the youth of today.

They are also expected to speak of his struggle in the journey toward attaining freedom for the people of South Africa.

According to the municipal public participation officer Sithembewena Tsembeyi, this is an exciting platform where the youth will engage in fruitful discussions.

The debate will be attended by 44 other youth councilors who represent the entire West Rand and residents are also welcomed.

The debate is expected to be recorded and a DVD of the event will be sent to the Mandela family to see how the youth of Randfontein honours the former statesman.
