The old North Way extension road connecting Randfontein to Tarlton and Krugersdorp will eventually be fixed.

The road has been in the news for all the wrong reasons of late as construction was set to begin more than a year ago.

Much to the irritation of residents, construction efforts were brought to a halt last year with no explanation forthcoming from the provincial Department of Roads and Transport.

According to Ward 9 Councilor Peter Dick, he is thrilled about the construction and feels that it will uplift the community and road users of Randfontein.

He explains that initially the road was tarred but had to be scraped because of the many potholes that became a headache for motorists.

The potholes came as a result of the abnormal trucks traveling in and out of Randfontein regularly.

“There are a lot of business situated along this route and we have discovered that since its scraping, these businesses have been greatly affected as few people opt to use this route.

“Needless to say that this construction is a much needed relief,” says Dick.

He adds that it is exciting that measures of improving the road in question have been put in place and it is only a matter of time before it is restored back to its satisfactory state.

“Land surveyors have done the necessary inspections on the road and construction will soon be underway,” says Dick.
