Residents embark on a community business

The residents of Wilbotsdal have established a community business in the form of food garden aimed at alleviating poverty.

This after DA Ward 4 Councillor Sina Erasmus, along with members of the community met to discuss ways of alleviating poverty in the area. The food garden is situated in a veld on Betty Street in Wilbotsdal.

According to Erasmus, she together with some local residents, approached the Randfontein Local Municipality and proposed the idea of running a food garden that would benefit the community.

Much to her surprise, Erasmus says that the municipality was keen on the idea and offered them municipal grounds where they could plant the garden.

The garden, which is to be implemented soon, will be run and managed by community members themselves.

They are then expected to sell some of their vegetables, and donate some to community members that are in need.
“We are delighted that the municipality actually agreed to assist us with the land,” says Erasmus.
