Four heavily armed suspects were busted walking on a boundary wall at the Piquant Security company’s premises in Randfontein on 6 June.

It is believed that the suspects were intending to rob one of the businesses in the area but dismally failed in their attempts as a reaction officer from Piquant Security spotted the four heavily armed men while he was walking to his car.

He confronted the suspects who then threatened to shoot him.

Fearing for his life, the officer immediately hid himself between the cars in the parking lot and and managed to run back into the office.

There, he called for back-up from other security personnel as well as police officers.

By the time the back-up arrived, the men had already fled on foot.

According to the back-up officer, Ryaan Kekker, the suspects were quick in their getaway but left some strong evidence behind.

“When we arrived at the scene, we found two abandoned idling vehicles not far from the property.

“We searched them and nothing was found.

“However when I arrived at work the following day, I decided to search the premises for evidence we could have overlooked on the day of the incident.

“Just minutes later, I found a 9mm pistol gun in the back of a truck and immediately contacted police officers to collect it,” says Kekker.

It is believed that the suspects dropped the firearm during their getaway and officers hope that this will lead to their arrests.

The case is currently under investigation by the Randfontein SAPS.
