LETTER: Northway Road saga: ‘There are four other routes’

Resident writes another letter, arguing that Northway Road is not the only access route to two companies for large trucks as mentioned by the municipality.

Well done to the Herald for drawing attention to Northway Road in Greenhills.

However, what will become of it all, God only knows.

A statement was made that this is the only access that these trucks have to the oil and milling companies (as mentioned by the municipality), which is nonsense. Four other routes can be utilised. Northway Road is the easiest is what they meant to say.

And it is the one that law enforcement wants the truckers to use, that’s where they have their ‘Toll Gate’.
Once the toll has been paid the truck drivers can do anything, speeding, throwing beer bottles out of their cab windows, not stopping at four-way stops, whatever. And, they are most likely being escorted while they do all of the above. I’ve seen such an ‘officer of the law’ sleep in her car out at West Village, with not a care in the world.

However, you have to put the spotlight right on them, thanks for this.

While the municipality has already given feedback on the matter, the Herald has since reached out to both the police and traffic department for comment which will be published once received — Ed
