Foreign nationals targeted in a business robbery

The suspects threw a large concrete block at the shop.

Three Ethiopian nationals had their shop broken into during a business robbery in Badirile squatter camp in Brandvlei shortly after midnight on 24 July.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the men were sleeping at the time of the incident.

“The suspects threw a large concrete block at the shop to damage the walls and gain access.

“Having done this, they walked into the shop armed with guns. There they came across the owners who were investigating the noise.

“They threatened them at gunpoint and demanded that they hand over an undisclosed amount of cash and airtime vouchers,” says Ernst.

She adds that the suspects then fled on foot.

Luckily no shots were fired and the victims sustained no injuries.

Anyone who might have any information with regard to the incident is urged to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Santie le Roux on 011 278 8100.
