Youth urged to focus on school and nothing else

Elder Nicodemus Moagi Tlhoriso Phake is hoping to bring change in schools.

Recently, Tlhoriso Phake, a motivational speaker, visited Thuto Lehakwe Secondary School to encourage learners to stay away from violent and illegal activities.

The topics include coming late to school or being absent, not completing school work, bunking classes, bullying, gangsterism, weapons, unplanned pregnancy and abortions and unprotected sexual relations.

This is however not the only school he has visited but has been to various schools across the West Rand and neighbouring areas to bring change to the youth.

“I am a man of God and I want to transform the lifestyle of students and learners,” he explained.

He continued to say he served 13 years in prison on Robin Island. Upon his release, he was rearrested and served three more years, before finally being released on February 14, 1989.

In 1990, Tlhoriso married his wife of 34 years and together they had four sons, unfortunately, one of them has passed away.

He noticed children misbehaving in schools and now talks to the youth about why a life of crime leads to a path of destruction.

“The community should see the political prisoners are not happy about the moral degeneration of students,” Tlhoriso said.
