Annie receives treatment and sponsors

The 9th Day has been treating Annie after she endured months on the streets of Randfontein and two major companies donated to her recovery.

Annie is in high spirits at the 9th Day Animal Rescue Centre after being rescued in Greenhills. Furthermore, Hot Cares and Silverstar donated to Annie’s cause.

Annie is being treated by the founder of the 9th Day, Charmaine Pieterse, who has taken her in after she was rescued off the streets.

After being rescued in a joint effort by No More Tears and The 9th Day, Annie received medical care where a snare was removed from her leg and she was given injections and antibiotics for transmissible venereal tumours (TVT).

Due to the costs of these treatments, Charmaine needed donations.

Luckily Hot Cares and Silverstar found Annie’s story touching. As a result, they decided to sponsor Annie’s TVT treatment and provided Annie with food for the following six months. According to Hot Cares’ project co-ordinator Andy Swanepoel, this support is valued at up to R20 000.

She further stated that the company will donate an additional R10 000 each to both The 9th Day Animal Rescue and No More Tears to help them continue to provide care for animals in need.

“Animals like Annie, who endured unimaginable suffering, receive a second chance at life through these rescues. Without intervention, many animals would not survive their injuries or neglect. Annie most certainly deserves her best chance at a safe and happy future,” Andy said.

No More Tears director Stephan Hendricks described Annie as a mixed-breed, medium-sized female dog.

Stephan became aware of Annie after a concerned resident photographed her roaming the streets. Thereafter, the two organisations along with many others launched a search to find Annie and rescue her. After searching for more than a month, they rescued Annie on May 20.

She sustained an infected wound as a snare was tightened around one of her front paws. However, since being taken in by Charmaine, she is making a swift recovery.

“I am extremely proud of how far she has come and even after everything she went through she is handling her treatment and rehabilitation process like a professional,” Charmaine said.

Annie finished her last TVT treatment on July 29 and is continuing her rehabilitation.
