Schools celebrate Mandela Day the religious way

Two Christian schools joined hands to spread the love of God, kindness and giving on Mandela Day.

Kardia House International took hands with Randfontein Christian Academy (RCA) during an outreach at the Randgate Clinic on July 18.

According to Kardia House deputy principal Joy Kruger, learners from both schools gathered at the clinic with various snacks, fruits and bottles of water. Learners then roamed the halls of the clinic where they gave the snacks to the patients waiting to be treated. They then sang a song of praise to God to which the patients responded energetically.

“We decided to visit the clinic after hearing that some of our teachers go to the clinic. The residents usually wait hours to be treated. So we thought it would be nice to give them some refreshments while they wait,” Joy said.

For Kardia House, it was a big honour to reach out to the community. Joy stated that since they are Christian schools, they wanted to spread the love of God.

In the past Kardia House has celebrated Mandela Day by cleaning the lake, planting trees and visiting old age homes. RCA decided to join the outreach, allowing their learners to collaborate with another Christian school.

RCA vice principal Vanessa Dreyer added they wanted to make a difference in their community.

“It granted us an opportunity to build a relationship with Kardia and the community,” Vanessa claimed.

For RCA this opportunity was one to remember as they gave something without expecting things in return.

“What Mandela did to change the country symbolises how we should treat people. It does not matter the race, the age, the gender or the culture,” she said.

Vanessa stated that the day made them realise how privileged they were.
