Runners Cornelia and Junior on top in Westonaria

Two runners did not disappoint during the Cross County League on home turf.

Randfonteiners Cornelia Joubert and Kefilwe Molefe outpaced their opponents and managed to get a place on the podium during the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Cross County League hosted at the Westonaria Sports Complex on July 6.

Cornelia, running in the colours of Boxer, won the sub-veteran women’s section in a time of 20 minutes and 40.01 seconds while Kefilwe from Mohlakeng Colossus Athletics Club placed third in a time of 20 minutes and 52 seconds. Kate van Jaarsveldt from Boxer finished in second place just behind Cornelia with a time of 20 minutes and 40.02 seconds.

The highlight of the day was Junior Azania Noah from the Warriors of West Athletics Club who caused an upset when he beat favourite Tyran Brooks from Boxer for first place in the Boys U15 event with a time of 13 minutes and two seconds. This is a remarkable achievement for Junior considering Tyran won all the other three cross-country leagues. Second place went to Thabiso Mokgatla from Mamepe Athletics Clubs (13 minutes and seven seconds) while Tyran had to settle for third in a time of 13 minutes and 28 seconds.
