Bumper weekend for Randfontein police

Police in Randfontein have made a whopping 76 arrests over the course of one weekend.

Police in Randfontein have made a whopping 76 arrests in one weekend.

Randfontein SAPS spokesperson, CAptain Appel Ernst reports that the arrestes were made over the weekend from 12 to 14 July.

A total of 38 arrestes were made for so-called A crimes and 38 for B crimes.

Drugs have proved to be one of the biggest problems in Randfontein in terms of crime, with two people arrested for dealing in dagga and another nine arrested for being in possession of dagga.

One person was also arrested for being in possession of another type of drug.

Other successes during the weekend include arrests for Stock theft, the illegal dealing in liquor, theft, interference with a peaco officer, and defeating the ends of justice.

Three people were arrested on charges of assault, while one was arrested for assault with the intention to cause grievious bodily harm.

Seven people were arrested for shoplifting and six for drunken driving.

One person was arrested for malicious damage to property and another for rape.

Arrests for B crimes consist of 36 arrests for the illegal crossing of railway lines.

Two illegal immigrants were also arrested.
