More break-ins reported across Rand West City

Mapogo A Mathamaga revealed a total of six crime incidents for the period from October 16 to 21.

A man was arrested after he was found to have stolen a pair of shoes at a shop in Randgate.

This is according to Mapogo A Mathamaga’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen who said that the incident occurred in Union Street on October 17. The perpetrator was cornered and arrested at the door.

This was just one of many incidents reported by the local security company, with another incident including that of trespassing and theft which occurred in Toyota Street, Randgate on October 16.

“The perpetrator gained access by jumping over the perimeter fence and went on to steal four rims and tyres as well as two batteries,” said Vermeulen.

He added that they also dealt with a case of business break-in and theft on Homestead Avenue in Homelake on October 18.

This comes after perpetrators gained access to the property by breaking open the door. They went on to steal an undisclosed amount of printer cartridges.

Another incident reported is that of an attempted break-in in Moorhen Street, Helikonpark.

“’This was on October 20 where the perpetrators tried to gain entry by lifting the main gate off the rail. However, they failed in their attempts and ran away when the alarm went off.”

Meanwhile, the police are also investigating a case of theft and assault on Angelier Street, Homelake on October 21.

“The client’s son was attacked by a group of men while returning home from a grocery store. He then ran into their yard and was followed by one of the perpetrators. Our reaction officers were contacted and upon arrival, one perpetrator was arrested and handed over to the Randfontein Police.”

Lastly, the security company also responded to an incident of shoplifting in Lourie Street, Greenhills on October 17.

“This is where perpetrators gained entrance through broken windows of the house. One perpetrator was arrested inside the house and handed over to the Randfontein Police.”
