Illegal miners busted – several arrests made

The perpetrators were found in possession of illegal mining implements.

The Myburgh Foundation Community Safety Unit in partnership with police from various areas within the West Rand District including Randfontein, conducted a successful illegal mining operation – where multiple arrests were made.

This was on September 6 in Krugersdorp where the perpetrators were also found in possession of illegal mining implements, as well as generators which were seized.

Myburgh Foundation founder and operations manager Randy Christian said those arrested will also face charges of being in contravention of the Immigration Act.

“The foundation is committed to rooting out the criminal element in the different communities and bringing about positive changes in communities. We are also proud to have introduced Cindy Christian, who is the first female from our community who actively participated in this dangerous endeavour of fighting against illegal mining in our district. We believe that strong partnerships with communities, the police, and other law enforcement entities will yield greater results in the future,” Christian said.

He added that those who want to partner with their foundation can call him on 062 591 2268 at any time of the day.

The Myburgh Foundation Community Safety Unit is a stakeholder of the Randfontein Police.
