NGO hosts successful Women’s Day colour run

Residents walked from the entrance of Umphakathi Mall to Hulumeni Lifestyle where critical discussions were held regarding real-life situations, social ills, and growing up as a girl-child.

Residents from Mohlakeng came out in their numbers and celebrated Women’s Day in style by taking part in a colour run from Umphakathi Mall to Hulumeni Lifestyle.

This was on August 9 and was an initiative by Leano Foundation which was supported by other local NGOs such as Proud Fathers.

The Randfontein Herald spoke to the founder of the foundation, Mapule Ratsoeu who said that the event was a major success.

“We hosted our programme at Hulumeni Lifestyle where we had motivational talks. The purpose of the whole event was to engage with young girls from different walks of life and motivate them about different aspects of growing up. We also wanted to encourage them on how to take care of themselves and stay away from social ills. We were joined by local NGOs such as Proud Fathers, Thuso ya Sechaba, and girls in real-life situations,” said Ratsoeu.

Young girls from different walks of life were in attendance at the colour run and were educated about social ills among other pertinent issues. Photo submitted.

She added that these are the NGOs who played a major role in the success of the event and shared valuable information with the young girls who were in attendance.
