Standing strong and proud

Terize Kotze a 28-year-old full-time accountant is also a competitive bodybuilder.

Terize Kotze is another proud woman standing tall and proud in bodybuilding which is arguably a more male-dominated sport.

It’s Women’s Month and the Randfontein Herald decided to speak to Terize who besides her hectic training schedule, is also a dedicated accountant by profession.

The 28-year-old said she took up the sport in 2020. It has since become a lifestyle.

According to her, bodybuilding has helped her to become a better person and besides building confidence, she feels healthy and mentally strong.

“Bodybuilding has been a game and life changer for me. You are not only growing stronger physically but mentally as well. I feel like all sports have challenges; however, bodybuilding is a lifestyle change, I changed my whole life around because of it and I don’t regret it one bit.

“It’s more of a mental strength than a physical strength type of sport can you believe; yes, I’m building muscle and yes, I’m trying to get stronger but it’s my mind that pushed me through the toughest gym sessions. I work full-time as an accountant and I believe that if you want to do something, you will make time for it,” said Terize.

Although this beauty is not married or in a relationship, let alone has children, she does still lead a busy life due to her career and other personal interests. She added that while this may be, she will always find the time to do what she loves.

“I do know of many women who work full-time and are married with children and they still find the time to train. This is what makes me admire the beauty and dedication of this sport,” said Terize.

Asked if she does not face any prejudice regarding the sports that she does, the confident bodybuilder said that people have warmed up to the idea of women in bodybuilding.

She said that of late, more women are competing and training in the weight sections, as opposed to previously.

“I see more and more women competing and training in the weight section these days but not a lot of people understand the sacrifices and effort we as women put into becoming the best versions of ourselves. I’ve honestly just kept going because, in the end, I am doing this for me. I’m also blessed enough to be surrounded by so many inspiring people that life inspires me daily.

“Whether it’s seeing someone give their all during training or seeing a random act of kindness someone is showing, life keeps inspiring me to be better. We are all placed on earth to live our lives with great passion and love. Why not find something that strives you to reach your full potential,” said Terize.

Terize, who trains twice a day and five times a week, is currently preparing to compete in the World Fitness Federation competition in September.
