It’s back! Residents to brace themselves for stage 6 load-shedding

July 12 has not gotten off to the warmest start as Eskom announced the return of the dreaded 4-hour-long sessions.

South Africans are expected to brave the cold even more as the power utility, Eskom, announced it will implement stage 6 load-shedding from 14:00 on July 12.

Residents will have to make use of alternative ways to keep warm during this time.

According to a statement issued by Eskom, “Due to the loss of additional generating units overnight, the extensive use of open gas cycle turbines, and the inability to replenish pumped storage dam levels, stage 4 load-shedding was implemented at 07:00 this morning [July 12] until 14:00.

“Thereafter, stage 6 load-shedding will be implemented from 14:00 today [July 12] until 05:00 tomorrow. This pattern will be repeated daily until further notice. Eskom will publish an update as soon as any significant changes occur,” their statement read.
