LETTER: SA and its people deserve better

Having given much thought to the letter from a reader that was recently printed, “We all know who the whites are going to vote for, but who are the blacks going to vote for?”

The ANC has had nearly 30 years in power and the country has been reduced to “junk” status on the world stage. If they are elected again, do we want more of the same?

A recent poll suggested that only 20% of South African youth intend to vote in 2024. But by showing disapproval and disappointment by not voting, they are depriving themselves of a constitutional right and denying themselves an opportunity to take responsibility for their future.

In my opinion, the DA is the only opposition party big enough to challenge the current leadership. Would the 2024 elections not be a fair and reasonable opportunity to give them a chance? After all, if the DA should win the majority vote they will have five years in which to demonstrate their leadership abilities.

Although five years is not a long enough period to undo the mess that has been created over the past 30 years, they should, in my opinion, be allowed to show us what they are capable of. The youth of this country hold the keys to their future.

My challenge to them is to step up and take responsibility.

Enough of the unemployment and poverty.

This country and its people deserve better.
