Oom Piet gifted a voucher for tackling thousands of potholes

'I'm hoping that people can give me donations so I can continue buying the material needed to fix potholes' – Oom Piet.

Resident and businessman Piet Lottering’s hard work and dedication to fixing the roads which are riddled with potholes throughout Randfontein has not gone unnoticed.

To show some appreciation towards Piet, who is famously known as Oom Piet, manager at Autozone, Christo Jansen handed over a voucher at their store in the CBD.

According to Christo, the voucher is for a car battery and is just a small token of appreciation for the work that Piet and his team have been doing in the community.

“The voucher can be exchanged for whatever battery size Mr Lottering wants. It is just so he can keep his vehicle running as he drives around town repairing potholes. We just wanted to say thank you from our side as Autozone and show him that we appreciate his efforts,” said Christo.

The Randfontein Herald also spoke to Piet who said that he is happy to receive the donation.

“I’m hoping that people can give me donations so I can continue buying the material needed to fix potholes. I do it for the community and I’m not affiliated to any political party. We just need money for tar and as it stands, we just bought sealer for R18 000,” said Piet, who owns a hardware store in Randfontein.

This hardware store, Piet said, pays for the costs of fixing potholes from buying material as well as labour.

Piet added that he also gets assistance from Polomino Tool and Plant Hire which helps provide a wacker machine that is used to lay down the tar.
