Mohlakeng school celebrates African Day with song and dance
A Mohlakeng school recently joined the rest of the continent in celebrating Africa Day.
Sedimosang Primary School in Mohlakeng joined the rest of the continent in celebrating Africa Day with song, dance and poetry.
The day also saw an array of costumes with teachers and supporting staff clad in black to mark this iconic day. Also present and among the guests of honour were two Department of Education Gauteng West District officials, Dimakatso Sebati and Phozisa Komani.
According to Dimakatso, she was highly impressed with the crafts, skills and values displayed by the learners.
“The talent clearly showed what we often miss out on while in the office. The kids did a wonderful job. To be Africans, we need to be proud of ourselves as South Africans first. African Day thus reminds us who we are, where we came from, and where we are right now,” said Dimakatso proudly.
She added that there is a great need for future generations to be more patriotic.
Principal Ndo Sekomela also thanked the district who decided to celebrate the occasion in Mohlakeng.
“It has been 60 years of African Day celebrations and we still have our challenges such as a high unemployment rate among the youth but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”
