Massive pothole and open drain a headache for residents

While some potholes in the intersection were filled with tar, others were left open and continue to be a distraction for motorists.

The massive pothole on the corner of Northway Road and Homestead Avenue has become a thorn in residents’ side and is proving to be disturbing, especially for motorists.

This became evident when the Randfontein Herald became inundated with calls from residents complaining about the many potholes in the intersection in question.

The Randfontein Herald went out to the location in question and while some have been filled with tar, others are left open and continue to be a distraction for motorists.

According to resident Frans le Granje, the potholes are a big concern.

The biggest problem that we have here is this massive pothole on the slipway on North Road.

Resident Frans le Granje is fed up with the potholes on the corner of Northway Road and Homestead Avenue in Greenhills.

“It’s right next to the drainage system and the municipality has done nothing but fill it up with sand. That is not correct. They should have closed the drain properly and filled up the pothole, using the correct material.

“We cannot be sitting with these problems while we are paying rates and taxes,” said Le Granje.

The Randfontein Herald approached Rand West City Local Municipality spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa regarding the matter. He said he would liaise with the relevant department to have the matter attended to with the urgency it deserves.
