2023 Arnold Classic Africa a resounding success

From crossfit to arm wrestling and everything in between, the couch was the last place to be.

Carried on the wings of sporting dreams, it was built and come they did.

The Ruimsig Stadium precinct flexed its full potential with every corner an exhibition of sporting passion. For three days, the 2023 Arnold Classic Africa showcased a wealth of sport, art and lifestyle festivities. Food, refreshments and athletic excellence were served up under clear blue skies, creating a lasting image for fans to cherish until next year.

Vendors, exhibitors and sponsors all helped to amplify the offerings of the 80 activations that populated ‘tent city’. The showpiece events were The International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness spectaculars, the strongman spectacles and the well-attended Champions Pro Wrestling’s Champions of War tournament. The slap fighting and arm wrestling had chins wagging as did the Twisted Cirque aerial performance art show which had audiences mesmerised with their mid-air ballet.

Karate South Africa held an all-weekend competition on the back straight of the athletics track, as did the Fencing Federation of South Africa which occupied the top curve of the track. The inner field of the track featured drum majorettes, volleyball, ring tennis, and team chess. For the petrol heads, monster trucks were giving attendees rides in the behemoths while more grounded vehicles were giving an exhibition of how to burn rubber in gas-powered whirlwinds.

One full day was not enough to see it all, forcing many to burn the weekend passes to get a taste of the action before the multisport circus left town.
A platform designed to give all sports the shared benefit of cumulative eyeballs, the athletes soared on the back of the hyped atmosphere while fans were giddy as they dined on a sporting feast fit for kings and queens.
