Library encourages residents to join the reading club

Rand West City Libraries urged the community to utilise libraries in their communities.

Rand West City Libraries (RWCL) recently hosted a library literacy campaign meeting with hopes of revitalising the culture of reading.

This was on March 28 at the Randfontein Library and the meeting was also aimed at sparking interest among residents to visit libraries. There they can also be part of book and reading clubs as well as join library forums.

Speaking at the meeting, Rand West City Libraries Manager Clement Daniels urged people to utilise libraries in their communities.

“This library was launched years ago to the value of more than R20 million and it is currently not being used to its full potential. As a library manager, it is my task to promote library services but to be honest, we are still facing some form of a barrier in the community and the services that we are rendering.

“We are hoping that this forum will bring in a group of interested stakeholders, who have something in common such as wanting to use and promote this space to achieve a well-read community.

“We even have state-of-the-art equipment, but it is underutilised,” said Daniels who further encourage people to utilise library facilities even when they want to engage in online meetings using the library’s Wi-Fi.
