Miss Gauteng Exclusive 2023 finalist visits Bekkersdal school to tackle bullying

Kefiloe Tshoane, a Miss Gauteng Exclusive 2023 finalist, is tackling social ills head-on by visiting schools in and around the West Rand.

During her recent visit to Seatile Primary School in Bekkersdal, she unpacked the concept of bullying and the ripple effect it has. The visit was also part of her social responsibility initiative.

Speaking to the Herald in an interview, the 23-year-old Kefiloe said she is passionate about tackling problematic issues in society and advocating for a conducing learning environment.

“What people need to understand is that bullying starts at an early age. It starts with the occasional teasing and the silent undertones amid conversations as learners engage. It grows over time and creates an even bigger problem, especially in society.

“As a result, it becomes more prudent that we nip the bud on social ills as early as possible. That’s why I decided to target a primary school and engage with learners at a level that they understand and that is appealing to them. I’m happy with the initiative as they responded positively and seemed to have grasped everything that was articulated to them,” Kefiloe said.

She added that she plans on targeting other primary and high schools when schools reopen for the second term, to also tackle other social ills such as teenage pregnancy and substance abuse among others.

Kefiloe is an intermediate-level student teacher residing in Roodepoort and is involved in charitable work and community projects.
