“The programme which has been introduced by the provincial government is aimed to ensure that the children in the different communities are kept off the street and are kept busy in a safe space where they can read and enjoy different activities.

Rosinah Ramaleba is also excited about the gaming corner and opted to play a game of scrabble.

“It is part of the concept of Libraries of the Future which essentially makes libraries safe spaces where one can visit during a lunch break and enjoy surfing the internet using our high-speed WiFi which comes free of charge. They can do this using their own devices and we also have a gaming corner, where they can relax their minds after reading a book or doing assignments.

“It is important to note that while this happens, the activities at the gaming corner do not disturb the peace of the library, as others would be busy with reading and studying.

The aim here is to attract many people to come to the libraries where we can hopefully promote the culture of reading,” said Legae.

She added that gaming can also be done online where children can connect with other gamers, thus developing their online social skills.
