National Championships: Two REM athletes make the cut

Randfontein and REM is rooting for two youngsters who have been selected to take part in the South African National Schools Championships being held in Pietermaritzburg.

Kitso Mokoma and Curtis Mudila are flying the flag high for Randfontein Primary School (REM) in athletics.

The pair managed to book their spot to participate in the South African National Schools Championships in Pietermaritzburg held from March 19 until March 21 where the best of the best are competing against one another. The two who are in Grade 6 and 7 respectively excel in hurdlers and sprint.

Their selection comes after having impressed in the Gauteng Championships held at the Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort..

Kitso Mokoma said he was happy to have made the cut.

I feel great because this is my dream. It is what I’ve been hoping for.

“Going this far just builds my confidence and am I adamant that I will put in a good performance,” Mokoma said.

Curtis Mudila shared similar sentiments.

“I’m actually very happy that I’m part of the national team. I think I’ve earned my spot. This has always been my dream of making it to nationals and its finally coming true. I thank God for bringing me where I am today,” said Mudila.

Meanwhile, their coach at the school Tumi Sekhokoane, was proud of how far they have come.

“I think they’ll do well. Mentally, we need to be very resilient and tenacious because it’s not going to be an easy task. If they can carry the preparation and positive attitude that they had from the start of the season, I am confident they will return champions,” concluded Sekhokoane.
