Greenhills resident Khanyisile Mkhaliphi is flying the Randfontein flag high and has managed to secure the spot of being a semi-finalist for Miss Teenager South Africa 2023.

The 19-year-old joined the prestigious pageant last year and has never looked back.

She said it helped her overcome some of the insecurities she had about her body – as she was someone who struggled with self-confidence issues during her high school career.

“I struggled a lot with my self-image, especially in my high school years and it was only recently that I could finally be confident in my skin.

“I now feel that I can finally fill up spaces and accept the fact that I don’t fit in and that I was meant to stand out.

“I feel that a lot of women struggle with their body image and that’s one of the reasons why I joined the pageant

“The most important thing for me is to share methods of how I got out of that state of mind and walk like the world is watching,” said Mkhaliphi who said she is constantly reminded that she looks a certain way and that she is often overdressed.

However, Mkhalipha pays no attention to the negativity and doesn’t let the noise get to her.
She has since started her own cosmetics line that is launching soon called … which means she who bestows honour upon her crown.

Mkhaliphi has also taken on patriotic work and has visited Green Light Academy to talk to young girls about the power of being confident and knowing their self-worth.

She hopes to expand her reach in this regard and be allowed to address other learners in other schools in the broader West Rand region.

“The school tour is aimed at empowering young women and just reassuring them that they don’t have to fit in and encourage them to love and accept themselves.

“I will be using the tour as a platform to also spread the message of self-love and self-care,” said Mkhaliphi.

She is currently in the semi-finals and is campaigning to get into the finals.

To get a spot in the finals, Mkhaliphi will have to raise a total of R5 000 through votes. To vote for Mkhaliphi, those interested are urged to deposit money into the donor list bank account.

R15 votes will get you five votes and R30 gets to secure 10 votes.
