Man wanted in rape of teen

Bekkersdal Police released a detailed identity kit of a man believed to be involved in the rape of a 19-year-old teen.

Police in Bekkersdal launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly raped a girl in her late teens in Spooktown last month.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said the incident occurred during the very early hours of Saturday, January 14.

“A 19-year-old girl was enjoying herself with friends when a man asked to talk to her outside. Both were patrons at the venue they were at. She then went out with him but while outside, the man allegedly became aggressive toward her. He then pulled and dragged her into the dark streets of Spooktown near the bridge where he raped her,” said Sergeant Lefakane.

She added that the young woman then got a chance to run away and reported the matter to the police. She was able to identify him using an identity kit.

“The suspect is approximately 30 to 35 years of age and Sotho-speaking. He is short and chubby and was wearing grey soccer pants, a white T-shirt with orange stripes, and a black hat at the time of the incident. He was also wearing brown Superga boots and was armed with a broken beer bottle,” said Sergeant Lefakane.

She urged anyone who might know of the suspect’s whereabouts to contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 8069/8040 or Crime stop on 08600 10111.

Alternatively, they may contact the investigating officer Detective Constable Rudzani Mushoma on 082 778 9048.
