Alleged rapist wanted by police

Bekkersdal Police launched a manhunt for a man who allegedly raped a 17-year-old victim while walking to her friend's house.

The Carletonville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence (FCS) unit has launched a manhunt for a male suspect in connection with the rape of a 17-year-old girl.

According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the victim was allegedly on her way home when the incident occurred at about 21:00 on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 in Simunye.

“The victim was allegedly on her way home from visiting a friend when an unknown man appeared out of nowhere. He grabbed her by her clothes, pointed a firearm at her and dragged her into an open veld where he forced her to undress. He then raped her before leaving her there. Shortly after this, the victim then walked back to her friend’s place and the matter was reported to the police,” said Sergeant Lefakane, who added she was able to compile an identity kit of the suspect.

The suspect is approximately 25 to 30 years of age, tall and slender built with a scar next to his right eye. He is also light in complexion and was wearing an orange T-shirt, black jeans and a black jacket at the time of the incident.

“We are making an appeal to the public to refrain from walking alone in secluded areas as they turn to be victims of either rape or robbery. We also urge parents to closely monitor their children and always know their whereabouts,” Sergeant Lefakane concluded.
