NPO to wrap Christmas gifts for a good cause

The Wheatlands Community Care for the Aged is wrapping people's Christmas gifts in an effort to raise funds, which will help during the festive season and also assist in purchasing winter clothes for next year.

Wheatlands Community Care for the Aged will take the gift-wrapping pressure off shoppers this holiday season in order to raise funds.

This is accomplished through their fundraising initiative, which began on December 5 and involves the non-profit organisation (NPO) stationing itself at the entrance to Checkers at the Tambotie Mall in Homelake. This is done in the hopes of attracting locals who are doing their Christmas shopping at the store and offering them assistance with gift-wrapping.

Speaking to the Herald in an interview, administrator for the Wheatlands Community Care for the Aged, Monique Pienaar said the funds are for a good cause.

“We are raising funds for charity and Checkers gave us the opportunity to do so, just outside their store. We basically wrap gifts that customers have purchased in store for a fee. We charge R15 for a small package, R20 for a medium one and R25 for a large package. This money however is not for keeps. It will go towards creating a memorable Christmas for the elderly and will also go towards purchasing winter clothes for them for next year,” said Pienaar.

She added that so far, they have raised a total of R500, with hopes of raising more.

Wheatlands Community Care for the Aged was established in 2017 and currently houses 36 elderly citizens, some of whom were once vagrants, and some were abandoned by their family. It provides them with shelter and food and a good quality life.
