Bekkersdal Police Spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said the incident occurred at about 04:00 on Sunday, September 4.

“The 55-year-old victim was asleep at her place when she heard the sound of someone knocking, followed by a window breaking. This is when she ran out of the house screaming for help but the suspect caught her and proceeded to beat her before raping her,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

She added the suspect is believed to be aged between 32 and 36. He is also dark in complexion with a medium build and was wearing a red baseball cap at the time of the incident. He has two gold front teeth and a silver earring on the right ear.

“We are making an appeal to public to avoid walking alone during the night to avoid being targeted. We also urge the community to increase security and lighting measures in and around their homes to deter criminals from easily accessing their homes,” added Sergeant Lefakene.
