Three men slapped with hefty jail terms for hijacking and kidnapping

West Rand District Police Commissioner Fred Kekana thanked the investigating officer in the case Sergeant Gontse Letlonkane who made the sentence a success.

Police in the West Rand District secured a victory through their investigations and have ensured that the three men arrested for hijacking and kidnapping will remain behind bars.

They were sentenced at the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, October 13 and slapped with eight years direct imprisonment for hijacking and five years direct imprisonment for kidnapping.

This follows an incident where they were intercepted by police after hijacking a Polo Vivo and kidnapped the victim on September 3, 2021 near Umphakathi Mall in Randfontein.

The three are aged between 27 and 38 years and were arrested in Kagiso after they were stopped by law enforcement officers, during their famous operation Okae Molao roadblock.

Sithembiso Nkomo from Roodepoort, Thabo Monaisa from Braamfisherville and Moses Maculuve from Mozambique were residing in Tshepisong, Kagiso at the time of their arrest.

The West Rand District Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana expressed his gratitude towards members who arrested the suspects and a team of investigating officers who made this sentence a success, including Sergeant Gontse Letlonkane who headed the investigations.
