Bad weather causes power outage in parts of Mohlakeng

This is due to lightening which struck the electricity cables in the area, thus causing damage which resulted in extension 4, 5 and Zenzele being affected for a few days.

Scores of residents from different extensions in Mohlakeng had to brave the cold and was left in the dark for numerous days due to a power outage.

This is due to lightening which struck the electricity cables in the area, thus causing damage which resulted in extension 4, 5, 11 and Zenzele being affected for a few days.

During this time, electricity was on and off, while repairs were being carried out and the issues around electricity started on October 29.

This resulted in electricity being fully restored in the evening on November 1 shortly after 20:00.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Monthsiwa said they were aware of the problem faced by residents and has since been sorted out.

“We had lost both feeder cables from the overhead lines to the switching station. The same cables were replaced two months ago due to theft. We requested the service provider who installed the cables to come out and test why the cables were blown but we suspect that the lighting could’ve contributed to the power outage and we apologize for the inconvenience,” said Montshiwa who also confirmed that power has been restored in affected areas.
