Football team needs help to participate in league

The help can be in the form of new soccer balls as well as the purchasing of a soccer kit - that will enable the team to meet the requirements for the upcoming Randfontein Football Association League.

The Greenhills Super Tigers Sports Academy is in need of funding and appealed to residents to offer a helping hand ahead of a big league coming up.

The help can be in the form of new soccer balls as well as the purchasing of a soccer kit that will enable the team to meet the requirements for the upcoming Randfontein Football Association League. The soccer kit and some of the equipment they had previously were stolen in 2009 and they have been unable to recover it since.

According to founder and coach at the Greenhills Super Tigers Sports Academy Bongani Duiker famously known as Ace, the academy consists of more than 50 young players who are passionate about football and will greatly benefit from any assistance from the community.

“Our items were stolen while in storage and that had a huge impact on our academy as a whole. We have had a very serious challenge when it comes to the kit, soccer balls, training equipment and transport for the children, especially when we have to train or even required to play elsewhere. As it stands, we only have one kit available and we are required to have two kits consisting of a home kit and an away kit in order to participate in the league, ” said Duiker

The league is set to kick off at the end of November and Duiker is hoping to have received some help by then.

Meanwhile, the sports academy started in 2000 with the hopes of keeping children off the streets and have them do something productive after school and during school holidays.

Duiker is a former soccer star himself. He kick started his football career at the age of 11 and has represented numerous teams including Jomo Cosmos.

He can be contacted on 083 490 2897.
