The initiative called Ntirhisano Service Delivery Fridays was started on July 18 to maintain roads and municipal infrastructure in 35 wards. Khoza said it comprised of repairing potholes, painting road markings at stop signs, cleaning storm water channels and fixing high mast lights.

We made sure that we went back to the communities and assisted them to live in a clean environment that is conducive. We have partnered with Sibanye Gold mine and different departments within the municipality to make sure that we achieve our objectives.

“We are also working with the community in every ward we go to to make sure that they join the clean-up campaign. People have been eager to participate and you can see that this is something that they have been waiting for,” said Khoza who added that they would be conducting the campaign every Friday until all 35 wards have been attended to.

The campaign is still in its early stages and only four wards have been completed.
