Another 31 illegal immigrants arrested in West Rand Okae Molao operation

Hekpoort, Magaliesburg and Tarlton was the latest target of an Operation O Kae Molao for West Rand Police held on Thursday. More than 120 people, among them 31 illegal immigrants, were arrested and road traffic fines worth R24 800 issued.

A much-increased number of police in the West Rand District in conjunction with Gauteng Traffic Police, Mogale City Public Safety, Gauteng Department of Community Safety, local security services and CPF members were deployed to fight crime in the Hekpoort, Magaliesburg and Tarlton policing precinct on Thursday, September 15.

The operation, which started early at 06:30 and came to an end at 15:00 focused on crime prevention, crime detection and police visibility in areas regarded as crime flash points, and was complemented by two roadblocks on the N14 and R24, and the R563 and R400.

According to Magaliesburg police spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere, 122 people were arrested for various crimes:
• One for possession of drugs
• One for possession of gold-bearing materials
• 31 for illegal immigrants
• One for attempted murder
• 36 for assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm
• Two for common assault
• 11 for common assault under domestic violence
• Two for common robbery
• One for armed robbery
• Two for rape

• One for business burglary
• Four for housebreaking and theft
• Four for business burglary
• One for theft out of a motor vehicle
• One for drunken driving (warrant of arrest)
• One for possession of stolen property
• Six for theft
• One for fraud

• Three for malicious damage to property
• One for pointing a firearm
• One for contravening a protection order
• One for contempt of court
• Three for reckless and/ or negligent driving

A total of 23 road traffic fines to the value of R24 800 were issued. All arrested suspects will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Sergeant Mogwere.
