Cops promote #SaferSchools during visit

Issues around gangsterism, drugs, respect and disadvantages of having a criminal record were discussed during the Randfontein police's visit to Greenlight Academy.

The Randfontein Police’s Social Crime Prevention Unit recently held a safety talk for girl learners at Greenlight Academy in Randfontein.

The programme held on August 23 included unpacking critical topics regarding crime and social ills.

Partnering with the police on the day were Public Safety, the Gauteng Traffic Police, Department of Community Safety, and the Tsosanang Community Youth NGO.

Proceedings started at about 11:00 and were aimed at creating a conducive and safe environment for learners and teachers at the school under the hashtag #SaferSchools.

Pertinent issues addressed at the event were around gangsterism, bullying, peer pressure, gender-based violence, substance abuse, drugs, discipline and respect, delinquency and the disadvantages of having a criminal record.

Those present at the event also distributed pamphlets which indicated a stance of no tolerance to bullying and advocated for safer schools.
