Another protest action hit the West Rand, this time Westonaria, aimed at rooting out illegal miners operating in the different communities.

Protests against illegal miners have spread to Borwa, a newly developed township in Westonaria and have resulted in residents going on a rampage, combing the streets in search of illegal miners.

Speaking to the media, residents in the area said illegal miners from Krugersdorp are now invading their community.

The protest action that has hit large parts of the West Rand is in response to an incident in West Village, Krugersdorp last month in which a film crew was robbed and eight women were raped.

Residents from across Rand West City Randfontein have staged their own protest against the zama zamas since August 8, also accusing the illegal miners of infiltrating their communities.
