Burst water pipe in Greenhills left unattended for nine days

Resident says water has been spilling for at least nine days and it's clear that the municipality simply does not care.

Thousands of litres of water have gone to waste along North Way Road after a burst water pipe allegedly was left unattended for more than eight consecutive days.

This is according to local resident Frans le Grange who called the Herald to witness what he called ‘a disaster’.

When the Herald arrived at the scene, the Rand West City Local Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Department personnel had also just arrived and started attending to the problem.

According to Le Grange, this is truly a nightmare for residents.

We have been sitting with a situation where people are experiencing water shortages in some parts of the country but here in Randfontein our council continues to waste water like it’s nothing.

“This water has been spilling for at least nine days and it’s clear that they do not care. They think the Vaal Dam will never get empty,” said Le Grange who added that the municipality’s sense of urgency in fixing such costly problems is somewhat alarming.

The Herald has once again reached out to RWCLM’s communication department and is awaiting comment.
