R’fontein cops, CPF hit the streets creating crime awareness

Community members and businesses were engaged and educated about crime such as business robberies, business burglaries, theft and more.

The Randfontein Police’s Social Crime Prevention Unit together with Rural Safety and Community Policing Forum (CPF) joined hands in the fight against crime by conducting an awareness campaign on Monday, July 25.

Sergeant Portia Mabala, Social Crime Prevention coordinator said the campaign started in Greenhills, then proceeded to Randgate and ended at Bootha Plots where community members and businesses were engaged and educated about crime such as business robberies, business burglaries, theft, armed robberies, drugs and hijackings.

“In addition, the community was educated about the services that are rendered by the police station and how to access them. They were encouraged to use support structures and community-based victim-support initiatives, and work with the police in the fight against crime.”

During the day 200 pamphlets with safety tips and updated contact details for the station were distributed.

Randfontein CPF chairperson Henry Boyce expressed his gratitude and thanked police members for participating in the project.

This is the kind of partnership we need. The police alone cannot win the fight against crime; break the silence and report crime,” said Boyce.
