Bikers join the quest to save the SPCA

Naughty by Nature Bikers Club and others donated generously at a fundraiser held for the RandWest SPCA in Aureus.

At least 500kg of animal food, several blankets and dog jerseys were donated to the RandWest SPCA.

This after the Naughty by Nature Bikers Club and others opened their hearts during a fundraiser in Aureus on Saturday May 21.

“We loaded our big Toyota bakkie and the trailer with all the donations. We also received a cash amount that will be used to secure our premises,” said a grateful Brenda Eloff, chairperson of the RandWest SPCA.

Animal lovers braved the cold weather to share ideas about ways to help the SPCA continuously. They were even more motivated to help after the organisation had been the target of thugs recently.

Yolandé Rothman, spokesperson of Naughty by Nature said they’ve come to donate because they’d read the many stories in the Herald about the organisation needing help. She said they wanted to help make sure that its doors remain open.

Last year, after becoming aware of the huge strain they’re under, especially considering the impact of Covid-19 restrictions, we started approaching the SPCA to find out how we could help meet the basic needs of the animals in their care,” Yolandé said.

They initiated the fundraiser by reaching out on social media to get the word out to all the clubs on the West Rand and beyond to ask if they also could make donations.

“We’re happy that we managed to collect essential items such as dog and cat food, blankets, and cash donations that they can utilise to meet their needs,” she added.

Brenda said they were grateful for the donations as they’d go a long way towards helping, especially after both their branches recently took huge knocks when numerous items and animals were stolen from them.

“We’re grateful that Naughty by Nature and other biker clubs came together to ease the burden.

To everyone who was involved we say thank you for always opening your hearts and purses to our animals; we appreciate what you have done,” Brenda said.
