Housebreakings and theft on the rise in Randfontein — Mapogo crime report

During load-shedding perpetrators broke into a premises in Greenhills, stole household items and fled the scene.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s client base in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said seven incidents were reported for the period between Monday, May 16 and Sunday, May 22.

A breakdown of the incidents:

• Monday, May 16 at 08:49 – Theft, Road 3, Bootha Plots. Mapogo officers were informed at the premises that the owner discovered that three bicycles and other items had been stolen.

• Tuesday, May 17 at 15:38 – Theft, Steyr Street, Aureus. On arrival contact was made with the owner who confirmed that a cell phone was stolen from the shop.

• Wednesday, May 18 at 12:25 – House robbery, Vergelegen Street, Culemborgpark. Perpetrators ran into the premises and kicked down the back door, but the owners managed to lock themselves in. A cell phone was taken and the perpetrators fled the scene in a VW Polo.

• Thursday, May 19 at 03:29 – Theft, Homestead Avenue, Homelake. Perpetrators broke a window at the front of the premises and forced open the safety gate. They gained entry and stole only a small amount of petty cash.

• Thursday, May 19 at 13:30 – Housebreaking and theft, Mossie Massyn Street, Eikepark. Perpetrators gained entry onto the property by forcing open the main gate. They also forced open the safety gate of the house and stole jewellery and other household items. They fled the scene in a silver SUV.

• Friday, May 20 at 19:26 – Housebreaking and theft, Kudu Street, Greenhills. Perpetrators broke into the premises during load-shedding, stole household items and fled the scene.

• Friday, May 20 at 19:40 – Attempted housebreaking, Lark Crescent, Greenhills. Perpetrators broke a window at the lounge but when they were disturbed they fled the scene.
