Local boys and youngsters celebrated on International Day of the Boy Child

May 14 is earmarked for advocating and creating awareness on issues surrounding the well-being and development of the boy child.

Management of Women Against Women and Child Abuse (WAWA), marked the International Day of the Boy Child at Life Esidimeni Recovery Centre in Randfontein on Saturday May 14.

According to the manager of the centre, Enrique Bhana, as an organisation they were proud to play their part in the theme that focused on boys and young men and their well-being, and making sure that they’re supported while facing numerous challenges.

Most of us are aware that the United Nations (UN) marks October 11th of each year as International Day of the Girl Child, which has been the case since 2012; however, we would like to remind people that May 14 is earmarked for advocating and creating awareness on issues surrounding the well-being and development of the boy child,” Enrique said.

He added that in order to create a good balance in society, it is important never to put one gender above the other, but always to make sure that there’s peace and harmony between both genders. One must also strive to make sure that the fight against gender-based violence is won.
